Is there an artist you really like who sings within a genre you usually do NOT like?

Dwight Yoakam for me

~I'm not a country fan but I love his stuff!

~ not the best example I'm posting (because he's collaborating with a zydeco group, another genre) but they all look like they're having so much fun!

I've always liked the voice of the lead singer of Disturbed, and I'm most definitely not usually a fan of that hard of rock or heavy metal or whatever that genre is.

I like a few country artists, but not many. I'm with you on Dwight Yoakam, though. He's a pretty good actor, too.

You're right -  he is a good actor.
    :)
I saw him in concert and he was great.

Garth Brooks. I'm not a fan of country either.

I don't know much of Brooks' music but I've heard his name a lot, though.

  • He seems to have changed Country Music forever.  I don't like him either.

    Troyal Garth Brooks
(born February 7, 1962) is an American singer and songwriter.[1] His integration of rock and roll elements into the country genre has earned him immense popularity in the United States.

His "integration of rock and roll elements into the country genre" is precisely why I like his stuff. Steve Earle does it too.

I think I've heard it - - though not sure. But I like it.
    And he's handsome!
(I've been in constant sexual heat for about a month now, ha!)

Yeah, he looked ok, from the front, when he was young and his hair was soft. After a while, and from the side, he looked like a real Cajun,

He does look a little better in the video

     :)

I bet that could be a non-flattering picture, too

The crescent moon shape of the face with pointy chin is typical of the Cajun people.

His chin, nose and shape of his face is partly what I find attractive about him.

  • "John Denver" ... occasionally he wanders into the "Folk" genre and I'm not a big fan of Folk music.

    I like Denver.
    :)
And I like the Native American images.
Denver looks good in this clip, rather young. I can't remember how old he was when he was killed.

I prefer folk to country. And I like most of Denver's stuff.
Interesting factoid - his second wife, Cassandra Delaney Denver, is Australian and friends with my sister-in-law. The Denvers maintained a second residence in the Australian city of Byron Bay. Mrs Denver was known by that name despite JD's legal name being "Henry Deutschendorf, Jr".

  • John Wayne's family (s/o & children) were known as Wayne, even though it was just a stage name.

I was never a fan of John Denver. He sang folk songs but I never saw him in anything other than a tuxedo until after he was dead.
