The gas station nearest my home is full service as are all the gas stations on the New Jersey Turnpike. If I'm not mistaken, New Jersey doesn't permit you to pump your own gas.
Yes, I took advantage of them until the bitter end. It's only been a few years since the last one anywhere near me has closed. That one charged the same as self-service stations, so why should I get out my car to pump when it's freezing cold?. They also did a better job of cleaning the windows; I still haven't got the knack for that.
Still do, in Oregon. The government of that state doesn't think people are capable of pumping their own gas without blowing themselves up. They only recently made an exception for after-hours in rural areas ... so people wouldn't run out of gas in the middle of the night in those areas.
Yes. That was when air was clean and sex was dirty. That was when water was free and you had to pay for porn. That was when US population was half what it is now, but cars killed 50,000 people every year anyway. (Mostly in one-car wrecks.)
You can't operate a petrol (gas) pump, it's too dangerous. But you can own a weapon capable of killing dozens of people in seconds, and don't even need a permit or pass a background check.
