When did you get an inkling that your government didn't care about your prosperity?

I know I promised that I would stay away from asking and/or answering political questions, but this is something I just have to know.

First of all, the "government" as a monolithic entity is inanimate, thus making it impossible for it to "care" about anything as a person might. Second, why is it the role of government to be concerned with the prosperity of any individual as opposed to that of any other individual? Each of us is responsible for ourselves and our families.

Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of government here... but I sorta think they do want me and most others to be prosperous, mainly because it means the economy is going well and because they have to pay fewer benefits... but that's the government here .

And why is that not true of other governments? Economics is economics everywhere.

Right.  And everything you buy is taxed at every stage from purchasing raw materials to production to wholesale and the retail sale.  By the time it gets down to you and me half of what we pay is due to the passing on of accumulated tax expenses.

I don't expect them to.  Just get out of my way and do not take my money, lie to me and try and expect me to love you for it.

I suggest that a certain faction of our government is VERY interested in your increasing prosperity - The IRS

Why should the government care about your prosperity?  They care that Americans have opportunities.  It's up to you to grab opportunities.  That is how one becomes what you call prosperous.

The IRS did not care about my well-being when they lied to me about when my payment was due.  That was back when fiscal years were not in sync.

The only purpose of a government is to prevent any other group from taking control. The duty of a citizen is to control his government. That is why governments always eventually treat citizens as enemies of the state.
