Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» It is ironically sad that those who continue to criminalize immigrants are the real criminals. Some enormous universal joke?
Hold on, Randy! Many Native Americans got along well enough with Europeans. Here in my county, the local Wyandots traded peacefully with the local businesses. In fact, the Wyandots were given a large area of land in several area counties, and had their own schools. Just the medical benefits alone were a big plus for the Wyandots.
Thank you, BH, you bring up a valid point. It does not, however absolve the fact that Europeons completely took over lands that were once freely roamed by the people who already inhabited them, instituted veritable genocide against them, created an entire country on the backs of the victims. Along the way, the "squatters" outlawed every aspect of the ways of life of the original tenants, their attire, religions, languages, customs, etc. While you can cite one or many positive narratives, the overall picture can't be completely whitewashed (wow, a pun) by them.
There's nothing ironic or sad about it. Being a kinda, sorta criminal is like being kinda sorta pregnant. You either are or aren't. I spent far too many years in a courtroom to buy that crapola that somehow you can break laws and not be part of the criminal element. The title goes with the accomplishment. If law carries no authority or validity, then empty out the prisons now, cause no one should be there. I never in my career in law, criminalized anybody. They do too good a job on their own.
Illegal immigrants make themselves criminals by their illegal actions. The sanctions applicable by the relevant authorities do not change automatically with a change of regime. Of course a wall would go some way towards limiting the numbers entering illegally, but would not deal with those overstaying their permitted time.
