    Simple ... the point of dating is to determine the type of person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
    Just because two people hang out a lot, doesn't mean they are in a "dating" relationship.
    They enjoy hanging out with each other, but don't view them as potential partners.  Thus, it isn't "dating".

      Thank you, but I'm not referring to any type of dating that isn't dating, I'm referring to those types of dating that are dating.

    How do you know it's dating, if they say it isn't?

    Example:
    If I hang out with a woman because I enjoy spending a little time with her, and we have s_x occasionally ... but I'm not interested in marrying her ... is that dating?  >  I would say "no", because the point of dating is to find the type of person you want to marry.
