Do you think humans might be no 'smarter' than germs and viruses...?

Germs/viruses invade a living body and may consume tissues or do damage until the body dies then the 'bugs' themselves cannot continue to thrive and die as well.
If humans continue to consume and damage the earth environment at a certain pace the earth will eventually die and us as well..

Well if 'bugs' multiply and take over a body till the body croaks then that is the end of them too. They never learn.
At least humans can foresee that ruining the earth could be destruction of our own lives but stop the destruction if there is strong enough will to.
Not spend so much on armaments and spend more cleaning up the environment but when will that happen?
