    Whether they are smarter or not is a value judgement. Technically they aren't smarter, their brains are less well developed but one could argue that because they lead a simpler life, they have created a better world for themselves..

    They are probably just more alert and aware than we are. In time via evolution they might learn how to  be as dumb as we are.
