Discussion»Questions»Weather» Three degrees outside and I have a 7.30am start at work. Do you ever have to leave home at oh-dark-thirty and freeze your butt off?
I used to do it and our winter temps are colder than yours (average Jan temp is -9C). In contrast, today's temperature here was 35C and it wasn't the hottest this year. So, I can appreciate your situation.
on another blues note about -9C: Nine Below Zero - Muddy Waters Ain't this a pity, people ain't this a cryin' shame Ain't this a pity, people ain't this a cryin' shame Well you know it's nine below zero, she put me down for Another man Gave her all of my money, all of my love and everything I gave her all of my money, all of my love and everything Nine below zero, she put me down for another man. (that's cold - LoL)
JANE!... Are you having a hot-flash or do you have a soft-spot for Slartibartfast?!?! In all the years we have been friends and known each other, I don't think I've ever read the words, "I can appreciate your situation." Granted, you appreciate many things but a person's dilemma regarding weather and work has not been one of them. Not that it matters, but I'm impressed. I find it rather touching.

I don't know what came over me. My response should have been something like this: -3 and 7:30 start? I used to start at 6 and -3C (26F) would be considered balmy. I would head out in pitch darkness with temperatures hovering around -31C (-25F) . If I was lucky. it would warm up and we'd get a foot or two of snow to drive through which made a nice change from the usual black ice. In December the days are so short that I drove both ways in the dark. Summers are brief, but the heat plus the humidity are brutal. The actual air temp may be only 32C (90F) but the heat index (how it feels) if closer to 42C (110F). So man up and quit complaining.
Meh. 32C is almost chilly in summer. I hate the cold, Arthur acts up and sonetimes I can hardly move. I've driven on black ice (terrifying), never had to cope with snow. I prefer it in the high thirties Celsius - that's around 100 on the archaic scale America still insists on using.
I happily go to work at times when it is 103 degrees outside just to cool off. Great air conditioning.

Yea but where to you place your holly and mistletoe - it will get all burned up on the BBQ and the cute Christmas Robbins will fly off to sit in the shade :P
We don't have robins - what we do have is marauding white ibises, aka bin chickens. Less cute than your grandma's Depends. As for holly and mistletoe, neither can handle our climate - too dry. The golden wattles and jacarandas are flowering.

You have it pretty easy except for the 3 degrees which we get in Eastern MA sometimes but not often. But when I leave for work at 6:45 A.M., whatever the temperature, I have already jogged and showered and made my breakfast as well as my husband's breakfast and packed his lunch.
6.45am? I'm on the bus at 6.05. Jogging is something I do rarely (a brisk walk at both ends of the bus ride twice daily, running with the dog evenings and sprinting at training - I walk or run flat out, no jogging), so it's 2 cups of coffee, shower, shave, dress and skedaddle.
