A diet high in animal protein is responsible for civilisation. When keeping oneself fed no longer occupies the greater part of one's time, has time for other pursuits.
Good question. In fact, humans were not really meant to eat meat at all. Our bodies are not designed like carnivores, with sharp meat tearing teeth and short intestinal tracks to process the meat quickly through the intestinal tracks. We have rounded teeth, and very long intestines, making a plant based diet easily and quickly digested. Its a misconception that the protein in meat makes you strong. There are many alternatives in a plant based diet that offers just as much protein as meat does. Even the bible tells us not to eat other living creatures.
So now apparently God has double standards? The Bible DOES tell us to eat "the meat from animals with a cloven hoof". Exodus. Not to mention slaughtering the lamb and splashing its blood on the doorposts and lintels. A cat's intestine is as long as a human's, relative to it's size. A cat is quite definitely a carnivore. The canine teeth of a primate (those are the pointy ones between the incidors and the premolars) are NOT rounded and are for ripping and tearing meat, they serve no other purpose. What carnivores lack is an appendix - and we're losing ours.
Cows have four stomachs to chew the cud, they weren't designed to eat meat. Some scientists correlate the eating of meat to the growth of our brains in comparison to our ancestors who didn't eat meat. We aren't designed to drink milk either, in fact most species do not drink the milk of another species, and of course animals only produce milk when they feed their young, so cows have to give birth to one calf a year in order to keep producing milk, they are typically artificially inseminated within three months of giving birth, the old factory farming is pretty gross but most don't want to know about it.
