A companion question is either inspired by a previous question, a continuation of the topic or similar to the topic of a previous question, a rewording or re-organization of a previous question, a loosely plagiarized version of a previous question, or a different take on the meaning of a previous question.
Additionally, when identified as such by the person who posts a companion question, often there is homage given to the original question, and if that original question was posted by someone else, credit is given to them also.
