When someone is being a big jerk with you, do you smile and say something nice?

Well that's the smart thing to do.. but me? No, never!  I don't have that kind of self-control or ability to play strategically... I usually just tell someone  they are being a jerk.. nicely as possible, but I tell them. 

Usually that kind of treatment finds no place in my head.  I just ignore it because I don't understand it.

I wish I could respond that way. I usually ignore them or call them out.

I need to do that more. I think I'll tap into my southern roots and start saying "Bless your heart" or "I'll pray for you". 

There are a number of ways I might respond. It would depend on the day.  

Basically though not exactly.  I acknowledge them, don't know how much I smile, but I try just to be polite and then leave them alone. Or if they are suggesting them I will thank them and say "no" and then withdraw my attention from them.  I don't know - I see no reason for offending anyone and labelling anyone a "jerk" seem sort of judgmental. After all others may not regard them in that way.  Certainly I have never called anyone that to their face.  So I just thank them for their interest but let them no I am not interested and that is the end of it and I no longer pay attention to them. 

I ignore them until they yell "Hey, didn't you hear me?" and keep going.
