    I think so, yes, but then I've never been a fan of shotgun weddings (forced marriages).  If the citizens of a state don't wish to be a part of the Union, let 'em leave.

    Yes.

    America was founded on the principle o,f as you put it "divorce" from government.

    Our founding document explains this with phrases such as..."That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,...." and

    " But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security".

    The Declaration then goes on to list the acts of the King which they found to be tyrannical. If you read the list you can see some parallels to things our federal government is doing now, as an example, "He has erected a multitude of new offices and sent his officers out to harass our people and eat out their substance..

    If a the people of a state decide that the Federal government has reached these ends and wants to "Institute a new Government", that is their right...

    Would it be the wisest course of action, I think not...

    Just think of the logistical nightmare it would be. When you think of those things the Federal Government is responsible for, it would be a monumental undertaking.

    Powers of the Federal Government

    Raise and collect taxes

    provide for the common defense, raise an army and Navy

    regulating commerce and trade with foreign countries, including the other 49 states

    Coin money

    post office

    roads

    declaring war

    immigration and naturalization

    borrowing money

    Etc, etc...etc...

    As a Texan, you would need a visa to visit new Mexico and vice versa...

    If the people of Texas are willing to sacrifice, and pledge their Lives, their Fortunes and their Sacred Honor/..Good luck..

    Well, you know what happened the last time some states tried it.

    We have this prophecy we call Armageddon. The USA is prominently absent from the story. The country must collapse and become helpless before then. You are seeing prophecy being fulfilled as you watch.

    I'm looking.....looking.....still looking....nope.  I don't have a problem with anything you just 'said.' :-)  I'm a voluntaryist kind of guy, so by default I am opposed to any form of slavery--even on a bureaucratic level.

    As for the logistical nightmare, it would help the transition enormously if Texas (the legislature and the citizens of the great state thereof) began the process of separating themselves, financially, from the federal government.  You know, refusing to take federal highway, education and welfare funds, divesting themselves of the responsibility to comply with unfunded federal mandates, removing themselves from any compliance with federal edicts regarding law enforcement, extradition and the like...

    I could go on all day long, but suffice to say there are many ways to skin the proverbial feline WITHOUT the usual brand of futile belligerence. :-)

    1) Yeah, I know (resistance is futile and all that), but Texas' situation is a bit different.  If I'm not mistaken Texas RETAINED the right to secede in its constitution and original submission for statehood.  As far as I know they're the only state in the union who can bug out--legally.

    2) Correct--which begs the question.  Could we do anything to stop it, or was Calvin right? If he was, then the whole conversation is academic: we're all automatons with punch cards up our butts.

    Texas was talking about secession long before Hillary threw her hat in the presidential ring. If they think they can make it on their own, I say let them go. Bear in mind, that Texas is one of the states that gets more back from the federal government than they send in. Let's see how that will work out for them unless they expect to receive foreign aid.

  • So, how would that work with the interstate highway system? Would we need a passport for Texas? What happens when a tornado rips through their state and they're crying for Federal aid? I guess they would get to hike up the prices of their oil and pay for recovery. Yeah.

    Most prophecies are MADE to become true.  I prophesy that my wife will cook supper tonight, and I'm hell bent on (her) making that prophecy come true. :-D

    But seriously, consider the prophecy in Revelation.  How could it have ever been possible to require that every man, woman and child on the planet bear the 'mark of the beast' in order to buy or sell anything prior to the advent of the computers (and globalism)?  :-)

    Like I said, sometimes prophecies are MADE to happen by people who are literally HELL bent on MAKING them happen.

    1) Obviously there would be border crossings at every point where an interstate passed into Texas. :-)
