Though I admit I haven't followed the on-going story in detail, comedianne Roseanne Barr came to my mind.

Years ago I saw her 'live' and she was hilarious but her infamous remarks certainly hurt her career it seems.

I'll even go out on a limb - - her singing the United States' National Anthem years ago at a professional baseball game - - I guess the majority of people took offense. I found her singing and performance very funny. What did the baseball leagues expect when they hired her to sing? A superb singing performance of the caliber of a Whitney Houston-type-superb singer? No, Barr is a comedienne and she delivered a comic performance - what she did was along the lines of what I would expect from a comedienne.

Those are just my thoughts on it.

    Jenner certainly surprised me.

EDIT: Woops! I intended that for Don Barzini -- that's OK, though :) This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at September 10, 2018 2:38 PM MDT

I think it's o.k. He will get it anyway.  I have a tendency to lean toward "Don's."  Big giggles to you and Don Barzini.  His choice is true to the tune of the question, for sure! :) :)

Oh man, you are on a roll with me.  I totally agree with this one too.  So sad but true.
Again, the media hype makes it something none of us would have known.  If someone had done that to me AND took me to the Playboy Mansion and I knew it then, I would have cried wolf, not later when he had made millions and would ruin him.  Why not do it when the act happened and he wasn't so famous?  I'm not sure if that reads correctly to my point.
He was and still is an incredible man that opened the door for many, many black people in the industry today.

Mikey Rourke.  I really liked him in Nine and a Half Weeks.  I heard when his dog died, he lost his inclining to do much of anything.  I feel for him. :(.  He did try to pull off the boxing/wrestling thing for a while.  His reasons are understandable.

Britney on the other hand... I'm not sure what her gig was that sent her askew.  Maybe it was having babies with her back-up dancer.  From being a Disney kid, to superstar, to a wreck..

Lindsey Lohan.  Let's not even go there.  She should have stayed with Herbie.  Wasn't that the name of the bug?  Her parents haven't helped her image either.

The icing on the cake is Michael Jackson.  Now here is a guy who actually created a genre and was a FABULOUS performer.  He really, really was.  It is the saddest story of all.*  What made him, broke him.  His fame was so large, we created a monster for him and of him he couldn't  even face it or himself.  Us and the tabloids.  His family and the rumors about his dad forcing him to be perfect, etc.  It goes on and on...  I didn't know him personally.  I only know him as a fan.  I'm not embarrassed to admit it.  I really like his music and loved his performances.

*Bruce is also the saddest story.  I don't know which is worse.   I appreciate Don's answer on this as well. :) :) This post was edited by Merlin at September 10, 2018 3:08 PM MDT

    Such talent these people have/had!

Have you seen the movie "The Prairie Home Companion"? A lovely excellent movie. Lohan was SUPERB. I hope she can get more comfortable in her skin.

~ from the movie (with Meryl Streep in this scene; it might be Lily Tomlin, I believe, on the right)

It is incredible, Element 99. It's a Robert Altman-directed film. It may have been his last? Like many of his movies (I think) this one is star-studded. The performances are great from everyone. Interesting plot lines. Wonderfully funny and wonderfully touching at the same time.

I own the movie and haven't watched it in a long time - - maybe I'll watch it again tonight!

Sorry it took so long to get back Welby.  I'm having a bit of an eye problem and I keep getting bumped off answerMug with the "awe snapped" screen to follow.  I have to wait until it reloads.
No, I haven't seen the movie but it sounds like a tear-jerker.  I would like to see it.
And yes.  It sounds like a rise and fall.  It's so sad when bad things happen to good people.

Maybe a bit of tear-filled moments? I seem not to remember now.

It struck me as more of a quiet darn funny little comedy with drama in it, too. I truly enjoyed the movie in all ways! And so-well cast - - everyone seemed to fit their roles perfectly.

    How about Mel Gibson?

The funniest joke about good ol' Mel here is when he got arrested for drunk driving.  His ego was so big, he blew Rese Witherspoon out of the water with his remark.  Even Martha Stewart didn't hold a candle to his dui remark.
Their were:  Resse Witherspoon,"began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer." and went on to say, 'you're about to find out who I am.."
And the classic Martha Stewarts, 'You can't arrest me!  I'm Rich!"

Good ol' Mel, when getting arrested in Malibu for a DUI went on to say, "I own Malibu.  It's "Melibu."

While en route to Lost Hills Sheriff's (unreadable), Gibson's conduct remained (unreadable). Gibson almost continually threatened me, saying he "owns Malibu" and will spend all his money to "get even" with me. Gibson blurted out a barrage of anti-Semitic remarks about "(profanity redacted) Jews." Gibson yelled out, "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in!

    the wor

ld." Gibson then asked, "Are you a Jew?"

Quite a turn for the very handsome and catholic man.  I have always like the characters he played in his career and found him attractive... until that.  Now, I don't have quite the admiration I did in the past.  I'm sure I never will.

I think of Randy Quaid too. He was funny in some films and then ended up being a criminal and arrested.

Pee Wee Herman - he went from being a lovable child like character to someone you wouldn't want to sit next to in a dark movie theatre. Cheers!

The late Whitney Houston.  An astoundingly talented woman, with a voice that would make the hair stand up on my arms when she sang, lost in the excesses of drug addiction.

Demi Lovato, although I have to admit, I couldn't name one of her songs.
