There is nothing to celebrate.  It's a time for kids -- you know, those less than about 13 -- to dress up in goofy kinds of costumes or goblin costumes and go door to door and ask for treats.  Americans cannot just let something be simple and fun for children.  Oh no.  Now there must be "attractions" for parents to have to pay for, adult parties in the extreme and outdoor electric decorations.

Lots of adults celebrate Halloween but I happen to NOT be one of them.  Nothing wrong with those who do tho!

There is nothing to celebrate.  It's not a holiday.  It is a day designated for childish fun.

The best Halloween memories I have as a child growing up are exactly the ones you mentioned -- simply having fun dressing up in a costume and going trick-or-treating.
    :)

Since when do Americans need a reason to celebrate?
Most American have no idea what Cinco de Mayo is about ... but we celebrate it.

Personally, I celebrate it as an excuse to exercise my inner child.
(as opposed to exorcising my inner child.  though I guess that would also be fitting with Halloween's theme.)

Americans don't celebrate it.  Commercial establishments try to capitalize on it but I doubt many Americans other than Mexican-Americans even know what the day commemorates other than half price margaritas at the neighborhood Mexican restaurant.  But it is a day to celebrate for Mexicans. For the past 30 years, I've witnessed hundreds of American celebrations of Cinco de Mayo.
It's basically another 4th of July, for all those people.  (as I said, they have no idea what it's about)

More Americans celebrate it than Mexicans.  It's not even a federal holiday in Mexico ... just another day, to most.
To them, it would be like America celebrating January 8th (Battle of New Orleans).

You must call going to eat Mexican because of discounts celebrating.  I don't.

No ... I call it celebrating because they put up decorations at their houses, and invite friends/neighbors/relatives over for a party.
The same thing they do for the 4th of July.  (Yes, a few even have fireworks)
The closest many of them get to "Mexican food" are margaritas and salsa/chips.  Most serve American BBQ.

It isn’t a day to celebrate in my eyes. I’m usually working. If I’m off I pass out candy.

I enjoy passing out candy to trick-or-treaters and I loudly blare out scary music - - here's one of the ones I use - - some of the scariest movie music I've yet to hear! I love it!

"The Demise of Mrs. Baylock" from Jerry Goldsmith's Oscar-winning original score to the original "The Omen"

oh --  and the choir starts demonically whispering in this piece!! Terrifying to me! (Happens at the 1:14 minutes mark) Three glorious minutes of music!

  • Look again ... (the zipper in the front).  Had to make it look like a costume.  Don't want to scare anybody. Good for parties too!
