Is there a song you like whose lyrics help you emotionally/mentally/spiritually/etc.?

I love Howard Jones' music.

His "Life in One Day" - - incredibly empowering lyrics and a great song for me.

I've seen him in concert - - at one of the concerts I suddenly got escorted out of line by security guards -- I asked what was wrong as they walked with me - - nothing was wrong, it was that the guards thought I was Howard Jones' brother and they were taking me backstage! "You look so much like him," they said. Stupid me - - I told them I was not his brother and they let me go. If I had played along, I could have met Jones!

    Pearl Jam “Given To Fly”

He could've tuned in tuned in
    But he tuned out
A bad time nothing could save him
Alone in a corridor waiting locked out
He got up outta there ran for hundreds of miles
He made it to the ocean had a smoke in a tree
The wind rose up set him down on his knee
A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw
Delivered him wings "Hey look at me now"
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor
    Oh power oh
    He's flying
    Whole
    High wide, oh
He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share
His key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere
But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed
    By faceless men, well, f******
    He still stands
And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
The love he receives is the love that is saved
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly
    High flying
    Oh, oh
    High flying
    Oh, oh
    He's flying
    Oh, oh
I don’t interpret this song as religious referring to Jesus. Eddie Vedder, the lead singer who wrote the lyrics is an outspoken atheist.

After reading the lyrics a couple of times that you posted, I looked up the song and listened to it. I can see how some may see a Jesus-like character but it's almost more interesting to me that the man is probably not Jesus - - for the reason you stated.
I liked the song -- there's certainly a hopefulness sound to it all, along with some melancholy or something along those lines - - that melancholy came out a bit more to me while listening and following along with the lyrics. But I hear more hope than melancholy.

I absolutely love this song. The music is beautiful and well written. The lyrics are equally wonderful and match the music well. This is a gem of a song and should be more well known. It gives me goosebumps every time. Especially when I hear it live. This has probably become my favorite song.

Before you just posted your reply here, I was re-reading my first reply to you and I realized I failed to share how much I, too, really liked this song. Incredibly profound -- both in lyrics and melody to me. And the performance is, of course, top-notch.

I'll do that, yes! Right now I'm getting pretty tired, probably will be hitting the hay here soon. But I like this song -- hearing it again will be fun.

    Yes!
    I love the song!
    :)

And as you know, since we've talked about it before, I can't hear anyone else other than songwriter Johnny Nash singing it. Not that Cliff isn't great but I'm completely stuck on Nash.

I'm sorry you missed out on meeting him.

I have a few that really speak to me. One of my favorite artists is Joshua Radin. He's helped me through some really tough times. I saw him once many years ago and was excited when I heard he'd be in town again because it kind of felt like a full-circle deal, where I'd overcome so much while listening to his music. Well, suffice it to say, I couldn't afford tickets when they first released and I tried to buy from a scalper who wound up stealing my money. I reached out to Joshua's manager to see if there was any way to get authentic tickets. No joke, the woman just added me and a plus one to the guest list for the concert. Well, my plus one and I broke up the day before the concert. :/ Yeah, bad to worse. But, I wasn't going to miss the concert and I didn't want the ticket to go to waste, so I posted an ad on CL saying the first person to respond to me could be my plus one- no charge- no expectations- just free entry. So, I ended up giving my plus one some random guy there who ran a beef jerky empire... yeah, can't make this stuff up... and he was already there and had made friends before I got there. The group was so touched that I gave away the plus one (and that I didn't stay home sobbing) that they bought me drinks and hung out with me all night long so I wasn't alone. It was the sweetest thing ever. And, I met Joshua. I got my picture taken with him and he gave me a big hug, which I promptly put on my Facebook page to make my new ex jealous. And, it worked. ;) Joshua has always been special to me, but that night was pure magic.

This is my favorite older soul-filling Joshua Radin song.

This is my favorite "newer" soul-filling Joshua Radin song. (It's like a decade old. lol)

Ron Pope is another of my favorites. I caught him in concert shorty after I saw Joshua. By then, I had gotten back together with my ex and he was supposed to go with me, but he double-booked himself and he convinced me to take this woman along with me... mostly because he felt bad for her and she didn't get out much. She had a panic attack during the opening band's first song and left the venue. Alone again. I suck at people. lol But, who can be sad when you're listening to stuff like this?

A little late but today I listened to the three songs you posted.
    :)
I particularly liked the "Brand New Day" song - - the sly little music video helped, too. I like Radin's voice.
    :)
    Thanks for sharing the songs!

I don't know of this song nor group but I rather like the sound of the song. I didn't catch all of the lyrics but of those I did, I think I got most of the meaning of the song.
    Maybe.
