Is there something you strongly dislike doing, but do it only because you're expected to?

Never having been a mother myself, I would much rather stay away from Western-style baby showers, a new rage which has recently caught on among the urban elite. But I have to out of a sense of propriety,

ALF,  I totally agree with you. I have to admit, Yogi Berra brings up an excellent reason why to attend funerals as well.

"Always go to other people's funerals.  Otherwise they won't come to yours."

He's got a point. :) :) This post was edited by Merlin at October 25, 2018 8:15 AM MDT

I can usually get by sending a gift along with my apologies and claiming I have to work.  But then I am not very social nor am I a party person.

  • Yep, any kind of party/event.   Being an introvert, I tend to pass on the party invites, unless they're close family.   I don't appreciate anyone attempting to  put expectations on me.   They would be highly disappointed doing so.

Yes.  Accepting Candied Fruit Cake with a smile, fibbing about liking it and having to write a thank-you for receiving it.
Secretly, I think the same Fruit Cake was given to my mom from a neighbor about 10 years ago.  It has made the rounds and been re-gifted to everyone at least twice.  BUT, we still accept it with a smile and write a thank you note.
If it lands in my lap this year.... Boy, I'm tellin' ya....
    ;) ;D!
