  • "When I was three years old"  ...  I remember my Mother getting her hands trapped in a wooden sash window as it fell unexpectedly on them. I guess I was the only one around, because I remember pushing up the sash so that she could get free.

But that is just terrible! I'm sorry.  I gather wild mushrooms to eat but I go by the book and won't pick anything I can't recognize.

"By the book". Very few four-year-olds can read.

I was 18 months old and staying with my aunt when my brother was born. It was January and the snow piled on either side of the sidewalk was taller than I was and I felt like I was walking in a tunnel.

  • I remember a hotel in Melbourne, Australia. I was 2 years old and we had gone there for a business trip of my dad's.

A kindergarten play where I was the Queen.  My mother made my costume and I remember a blond boy was dressed as a tin soldier.  Can't recall which play it was.

I don't know if it was the first memory because I didn't know how to count then.  I have many early childhood memories.
I remember learning how to drink through a straw at A&W Root Beer Burger stand.

  • A&W's ... another memory.  I wonder if there are any of them still operational?  Last one I saw was on the coast road, Rt. 1, in the early 80's. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 3, 2018 2:11 AM MDT

Hello there Merlin, and Alf and M2C
I sure miss A&W. We had one in Menlo Park, which was a big part of my teen years, they had car hops...
I dont know if the A&W's in the mid west had the "Bartell & Blain" name, but they did out here, Mr. Bartell lived in the neighborhood I grew up in and he would make root beer floats for the trick or treaters on Halloween.

    Hello M3C
    Wow, that made me hungry..
There is an A&W in Modesto...it is an original from the 50's. they still carhop and the inside still looks like it did when new. They even keep a few old 50's cars in the parking lot. The outdoor seating area has the Mama,Papa and baby bear cement statues...

Yes. They had the menu order box on the passenger side and they would roll out with your tray that hooked to the driver side window..

Modesto!!  We know where that is!!  I haven't been to that specific A&W if it is even still around but I'm going in that direction in a month.  I MUST drive by and see if it is there.  If I remember, I'll take a picture of what IS there and share it here with you!!
    Awesome!
The good ol' days.  I remember roller skates with 4 wheels too.  I was never very good at inline skates but pretty good on roller skates.
*That came way after learning how to drink through a straw!  Big Giggles!  Thanks designer :) :)

Im pretty sure it is still there. If you go at the right time you can catch the 50's style karaoke..people dress up 5o's style..I have a brother who lived in modesto, his kids are about the same age as mine. When we would go out for visits
we would go there with the kids...It was still there maybe 2 years ago..
But do you remember when the wheels were metal..and you needed a key
