I dunno.. I might have to do that. What I think would happen is that about a dozen crackheads, a drug dealer or two as well as a pimp would rush over to claim the money so i'd hand it to the first person to reach me but then some of them would be yelling "that was MY money you gave away -now you owe me $150.00!" Then I would be in big trouble..
Let me see, I would turn in as lost cash to the Police. In 6 months it is yours if no one claims it. Up side of this approach is you avoid a sting, a roll that small in a drug neighborhood is probably a sting or worse
Certainly not hand it in to the police....the Turpins in England steal enough money from people running their very lucrative protection racket..... I would either keep it or give it to charity ....:(
A number of years ago, 2 teenagers found a buried suitcase with approximately 950,000.00 in it. (This story came to light when they bought a new Cadillac from a local dealership with cash.)
The teens were honest with the police. The police confiscated the money and held it. Notice was publicly posted regarding the money.
No one came forward to claim the money, and it was returned to the teens.
Police commented that it was probably drug money and that was why it went unclaimed.
If it was around a business I would give the business my number in case someone reporting losing money. I would not tell them how much it was. I've done this with gold and diamond jewelry twice. Both times I found it at work, once in the building and once in the parking deck. I put a notice on a couple of boards in the building. I had quite a few calls trying to describe the jewelry. I kept both items, had them cleaned, and gave them to my two daughters. They were both expensive pieces. I don't wear jewelry. I did when I was young but I was still pretty young when it started to just seem goofy to hang metal pieces on my body.
