"85 mph" .. if Texas hasn't changed it since 2014.
With a speed limit of 85 mph on specified segments of rural interstates, Texas is the fastest state in the country. The state's average speed limit for all three types of roadways (rural and urban interstates and limited-access roads) is 78.3.Oct 6, 2014
Around here it's 65 mph, and that's only on a 3 mile stretch of the new "highway" (and there are 4-5 fatalities on it per year).
Driving around these parts is always treacherous. All the roads are winding and steep (this is mountain country). Very few roads have a shoulder (no room), and many have sheer drop offs (really "fun" to drive on foggy days or at night). Some roads aren't even paved, and the ones that are, are wet/icy 24/7 all winter long (mountains and trees keep them from getting sunlight). If that isn't bad enough, deer, bears, skunks, possums, raccoons, and other wildlife abound.
I am so glad cars do not come equipped with cannons. Like a tank? Because I swear, I would have murdered a bunch of people by now. I would regret it later, but at the time, when someone is cutting me off when I am trying to get on the expressway and they have to go into my lane in my spot and cut in front just to prove they can, I want them blown to smithereens. They could care less about my life or anything.
And just try and get into another lane when you want to exit? Everyone going 80 mph or faster here in some parts of Arizona? These people are just creeps with driver's licenses.
