But he original animated TV special is Tops for me for that story. :)
I did not want to see Jim Carrey's version but I was outvoted by friends. And, I do admit, Carrey did not ruin the story for me. I was afraid he'd go way over the top like he often does (in my opinion). But I ended up rather enjoying much of his performance. :)
That Finney movie -- I've only seen it once. But I think that is the one with a song I adored! Something about "Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's done for me -- it isn't every day, good fortune comes my way . . . " Something like that, I think. :)
Yes!!! That's the one!! Thanks for posting it - - I enjoyed watching it just now! I only saw/heard the song the one time I watched the movie and that was a long time ago. How fun to see and hear it again. The definite highlight of the movie for me.
I guess I don't remember the morbid quality to the scene, with the coffin. I assume it's Scrooge in there.
My favorite part is the huge chorus of people and their choreography/dancing for the song -- especially when they all crouch down but keep dancing, to not wake the baby. :)
I've only seen that first "Home Alone" once. but my favorite part is when the family is at the airport (I think) and the mother Catherine O'Hara just realizes that they left Macauly at home. And she screams out his name. Very funny to me. :) I may be remembering it wrong but the scene went something like that.
I believe you remembered correctly :) I loved how Macauly rigged the house to make it appear that there was a big party going on, because Joe Pesci and Daniel whtatshisname's characters were after him. Great movie.
