  • I start singing circus theme music in my head, nod and smile,  and pretend I’m listening until it’s over.

I'm half deaf, so that would increase the chances I might actually hear them. lol

I reach my hand out towards them and pretend I'm turning down a volume knob while saying "indoor voice".   They usually get the hint.

Tell them to back up and tone it down.

Have some fun with it - like when they ask me something in a loud voice I'll say - what. Then when they repeat it even louder Ill say excuse me and if they repeat it again I'll quietly mumble - loud talkers say what - usually they say what.  Cheers!

Usually, I walk away and avoid that person as much as possible.

    Sometimes it's not possible.

I carry foam earplugs in my handbag.

If someone or something is too loud, I put them in.

I care about my hearing and don't want to risk losing it if I can help it.

Turn them off in my head. Or, you could call it ignoring them. I'm good at that.

I find there are a lot of people today who speak too loudly and I attribute that in some cases to growing older and in other cases to everyone now using earbuds to listen to loud music.  It's difficult to say anything mean so unless it was someone with whom I had to chat up, I would just walk away after a short time.
