I can't ever Rosie....Playing for fun I understand as its a great way to get exercise....Playing for cash ,notoriety ,fame is beyond me though ....who care who can kick ,bat ,bash a ball the farthest....run ,jump or skip the best....
You bat a ball and people scream with excitment....Guys talk about it endlessly and think the players are some kind of God.....
Billions of pounds change hands for the players and any thing associated with these games......
I find it odd also that so much money in America changes hands in every aspect of all sports ,yet you still don't have a free hospital /health care system...
Its the basis of any civerlized country......you spend trillions on weapons and nothing on welfare....
Even Russia has free health care...China to has free hospitals ....

Well the good old USofA under the gaslighter-in-chief and his adoring worshipping trumpicans fight tooth and nail to take away what we have..chipping away at it. I think they're all a few cards short of a full deck of ya get my drift. But as for admiring athletes? The times I saw Bobby Orr skate in Boston (he was on the Ice Hockey team..the Boston Bruins) I thought I'd never seen such grace and beauty in an athlete! I'm NOT kidding you! He could change direction fast and furiously and made goals and made others better. In basketball when my son was a teenager he and his pals would watch the Lakers I got to be very knowledgeable about the teams in that day..the day of Magic Johnson on the Lakers and Larry Bird on the Boston Celtics. Some of those players did such brilliant things it was breathtaking. In baseball I never was a pro baseball fan but my son played Little League and I was a fan of his so I loved watching him play. And he was a fan of LOU GEHRIG so I became one too. There was movie starring Gary Cooper about him. It  is a great movie! We come to present day and Jim hooked me on tennis and golf. Roger Federer is the most "beautiful" tennis player I've ever seen. His performance on a tennis court is often astonishing. He is almost 38 so his days are numbered. That's old for a tennis player! As for golf it is a very quixotic game. Those who master can have terrible days and sometimes unknown comes out of the blue win. I guess I'm a sport fans kinda sorta. I agree that having a logical sensible reasonable practical dependable health system  that all American citizens could benefit from is more important than sports. We will only get when we get rid of all the pretentious supercilious self-aggrandizing proponents of dumba** ideas and well that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. They think Socialism is far worse than FASCISM which is what they all are but  will never admit to but in the definition in the dictionary it includes RACISM. Apologies for the long reply. Thank you for your thoughtful response D!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 5, 2019 10:20 AM MST

The Oxford ,Cambridge Boat race is fun and I do love to cheat when playing board games...again, my dad was a good teacher when I was little.... Lol

If you ever have a son who plays any sport you will be a fan sweetie. Don't know if having kids is in your future but if so IT WILL CHANGE YOU if you do. You'd be surprised all the stuff you thought you'd never ever want to do that you do. And like it too! Thank you for your reply D! :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 5, 2019 12:43 PM MST

Kicking a ball for kids is the norm Rosie.....it's fun for them and there is no vast sums of money involved...do kid's  act like adults and get violent about there team being better ...I don't think so...i

My grand dad told me professional footballers in his day use to play Saturday afternoons after leaving their work.....They played because they enjoyed the game and not the money or hype as it all is now....

I know R and that is mind-boggling to me! Totally! I mean it's SUPERB if you excel in ONE SPORT and maybe win a gold medal in it. But multiples? Triples? Ten? Seriously? Maybe it's like those baby geniuses who compose operas at  the age of three. They are channeling their accomplishments from prior lives. Thank you for your reply R! :)

Balance and speed. If you have them, you can be athletic.

If they can do well enough in more than one sport to enter competitions I think more power to them.
