Did you ever notice that house doors in movies and TV shows don't have screen or storm doors?

Nor do they have window screens.

Less than one % in England have such things.... We need them to keep the bugs out and let the air  in....
They have them everywhere in Greece though.....:(

Most new homes do not have screen doors. (At least in my area) It is kind of annoying.  Who wants to leave their front door wide open? I believe screens are still on windows though.

It must be a common building technic otherwise there would be no need for these products:

  • I hadn't noticed, but every home here has them.  No joke, but generally speaking the ones here who don't have  them  are tweakers. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at February 9, 2019 10:25 AM MST

    Or no door at all

    :)

I never noticed this in the movie until I recently watched an interview with actress Veronica Cartwright -  - at the time, she mentioned her concern to Hitchcock that there was no door they were opening to walk through.

  • I agree with my2!  Most newer homes just don't have screen/storm doors anymore.  We have a newer home and had them installed on our doors first thing.  It's better for security and energy savings!

I think newer homes are more about decorative doors than anything else.

I had to build one for the back door in my first house.

Yes it is about the pretty door. And honestly if I spent over $1000 on my door, I am not hiding it behind a screen door.

  • True ... I'd love a door like that.  But I guess I'm too practical to give up the safety of that extra door between me and whoever is at my door when I open it.

I never thought about the screen door as a safety device but I suppose it is.

The higher the scale of a neighborhood, the less screens you see from the street.  There are likely screened windows and caged pools in the back.
