Do you skip the tail when merging?

When you are going on the highway and merging, do you follow the line to the end of the tail or do you just drive over that tail and skip to the next lane?

I do.

When the driving conditions safely allow for it, I am a fellow tail-skipper.

I'd wager that police officers see it all the time.

No, I stay in my lane. I don't wanna give da cops an excuse to pull me over. Some of these lane violations come with hefty fines.

I definitely get into the lane I feel safest as soon as possible.  This means the safety of all driving at the same time as well.
I ALWAYS, (I can happily say) use my signal and ALWAYS :)  make sure it is a SAFE lane change.  I will drive to the next exit if I miss the one I needed to take and in the wrong lane.
I do not hang in the merge lane if I can safely get into a continuing lane.
I also wave and thank the person if I am forced into their lane by merging.
I am a very respectful driver to my fellow travelers and myself.
It's more important to me that we ALL arrive safely to our destination than me having to force my car/truck and myself into someone else's world.
    :) :)
