    My dad's father got religion, bought a farm, and gave it to the church. Gramma left him, so dad was raised by a frustrated religious nut.

    My mother's mother died in the flu epidemic so her father broke up the family and sent kids to live in different states. Mom was raised by a sister, but she thought it was her mother until she was 12.
