Why do we have different religions if there is one "God" only?!

  • I feel a conversation coming on ... Buddhism has no gods and I can't quite remember when they last attacked anyone ... And bugger the disturbance, the concept of God or gods has been disturbing us for years ... If such things exist I'd magine they want us to follow because we have examined and thought rather than just follow like sheep

    Hello SH:

If religion weren't a money maker, there would be only one.

Hello SapphicHeart, good question. According to the Bible, there was to be an apostasy from true religion with a restoration of true religion in the time of the end. Just look how popular non-biblical doctrines like inherent immortality of the soul with non-believers immortal souls being consciously tormented forever in a literal hell fire and the trinity have become. Neither is in the Bible yet most believe it. Even the popular religious customs are not from the Bible with Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny.

1 Tim. 4:1: “The inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.”
2 Thess. 2:3: “Let no one seduce you in any manner, because [the day of Jehovah] will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction.”
    Some identifying marks of apostates—
They seek to make others their followers, thus causing sectarian divisions
Acts 20:30: “From among you yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves.”
2 Pet. 2:1, 3: “There will also be false teachers among you. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them . . . Also, with covetousness they will exploit you with counterfeit words.”
They may profess to believe in Christ but treat lightly the preaching and teaching work he assigned to his followers
Luke 6:46: “Why, then, do you call me ‘Lord! Lord!’ but do not do the things I say?”
Matt. 28:19, 20: “Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them . . . teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.”
Matt. 24:14: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.”

(Daniel 12:4) “As for you, Daniel, keep the words secret, and seal up the book until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant.”

“You let go of the commandment of God and cling to the tradition of men.”—Mark 7:8.

    WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

People have an innate “spiritual need” that they can fill by worshipping God. (Matthew 5:3) In trying to satisfy that need, people have created many religions that are based on the ideas of humans rather than those of God.

For instance, the Bible says about members of one first-century religious group: “They have a zeal for God, but not according to accurate knowledge. For because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.” (Romans 10:2, 3) Likewise today, a large number of religions exist that “teach commands of men as doctrines.”—Mark 7:7.

Probably for the same reason there are more than one type of monkey or sheep... Adaptation to regional and environmental differences. God is man's attempt to explain what science cannot, there isn't one type of man, but many.

I'm not aware of how popular "non-biblical doctrines like inherent immortality of the soul with non-believers immortal souls being consciously tormented forever in a literal hell fire and the trinity" have become. Furthermore I for once would appreciate if people taking part in this discussion could do it without copying pages of written texts from the various holy books. Doesn't make it any more believable as it's nothing more than written words by man. This goes for all the books. Thank you.

Religion is an animal? Hmm. Could explain why some of the religions fight each other, or more precisely the people interpreting the words are fighting each other. I do agree with you that God is a conceptualization made up by man. I'm not sure it's solely was to explain what science cannot, but that will be another discussion. Thank you for taking part. :-)

    Sorry.

If you talk to Church people, most believe that non-beleivers are going to burn in hell and that God is a trinity. These same Church people claim to believe in the Bible.

Religion isn't an animal (not literally at least) but the creators (read: man) of it are. By "what science cannot," I'm referring to the supernatural.

  • Because everyone wants to worship in their own way.  Some people might argue with you saying there's only one "God" though.  That's also because everyone believes in their own way.

  • If we are to believe there's a God, then because of the cultural differences He, in His wisdom, had to make Himself culturally available and palatable so all people in the.world can receive His message. If Jesus were.to appear now in the.middle of time square, people would think Hes a nut. But if he were to show up, as a wealthy individual wearing a.suit, people, at least here In the.US, would be a little more receptive. I think.

I'm fully aware abut the references made to the supernatural, but was too tempted to play along with the animalistic approach. Sorry. :-)

Oh, I'm not saying there's only one "God", in fact I personally don't believe in any God(s). I'm just wondering about how we see other religions that somewhat might mirror our own, and why we would believe our God to be the real and not the God of another religion. 'We' and 'our' seen as those believing in the one or other religion. I'm fully aware there are religions with several Gods too.

So, God won't be able to embrace all of us when presenting themselves in their own image? @your Jesus comment, I'm scared how I see Trump in that comparison. Oomph. Doesn't make him less nuts, huh?

Well... Who invented the religions? Who told the stories? What purpose does the religions have in our societies back when they were invented, and today in modern time?

No doubt that the various religious books were written by the hands of man.
