I don't respond if I don't have anything to add to the "conversations". I see many good questions, but they might not apply to me or my experiences. It's no reflection on the poster.
They are positively acknowledging your effort in asking them and, by extension, you.
When I first started on chat sites ten years ago I just assumed that the "like" designation was for questions, answers, comments we liked. Later it was explained to me that the way younger people took that was as the polite way of acknowledging someone's effort.
I don't fall into the category of never answering your questions, but there are times that a question of yours doesn't pertain to me yet I find it interesting or intriguing or thoughtful or witty. For instance, you often post questions specifically directed at women, asking for them to recount their opinions or experiences. I'm certainly not going to answer, but I may click the like button based on what I think of the question.
If I like a question enough to answer it I will always « like it » Also sometimes I enjoy reading a question and the responses but I have nothing to add. I’ll the question in that case too. Also sometimes I’ll like a question, plan to answer it then get distracted by something else and forget to get back to it.
