If you could afford any house. How big would you like your new house to be? Maintenance, utilities and taxes will all be taken care of too

I think big houses attract the wrong kind of interest and have too many entrances for me to sleep well at night.  I have enough trouble as it is.  I think the land and the quality of the construction is far more important that square feet or meters.  What do you think?

    What do you mean by 'maintenance'?   Do they just keep up appearances of the house and yard or does that include cleaning the house?  If I have to clean it, then I need it to be big, so I can have borders to pay for the housekeeper.''

    Have you ever heard of wood boring bees?  Okay, that doesn't matter, "maintenance" includes structural damage, or what ever that would be called.

    I would never want a large house.  To much upkeep (cleaning).  Plus, large empty houses are depressing - especially as you get older.  So long as the house has a workable yard, a small house is just fine.

    My choice (in my dreams) would be a houseboat about 25 feet wide by 50 foot length with 2 stories and a good lot of flat space outside.

    I really don't know. My tastes kind of shift. If it was just me, I'd be thrilled with a tiny house and some land. But, lately I've been eyeballing some historic homes up in the area of Jerome. If money wasn't a concern and I had the cash to do a full rehab on one... oh man... I would be all over that.

    Two bedrooms each with private full bathroom, a great room/living room with half bath, an office, kitchen/dining room, basement for storage. two car garage on a half acre of land.

    When we purchased our home we were very much thinking toward housing my husband's mother eventually as well as having room where his daughters could stay or visit.  All now have pretty much their own lives so we are left with something too large for us.

  • I would never want a very large home regardless of how much money I have to spend. My home now isn’t that big but this is exactly the floor plan I want for my “last” home. When ever that happens.

    1356 square foot bungalow Plus basement.

    And I want it to have this look on outside except I want the garage, door frame and shutters to be a different colour. I haven’t decided what yet.
    Also I need at least 2 acres of land. That is all.

    Yes, that one is JUST the right size.  But I would prefer wood panelling on the outside.  Cheers.

  • I have no desire for a big house. That would only make sense if I were living with a lot of people. At most I'd want to live with one other person. I just need enough space to store all my books. I would value "cozy" over "big" any day.

    I left a big house back home.  My daughter bought it and is raising my grandkids there.  I'm 700 miles away.   Now I'm in a townhouse that's about 1400 sq ft and I would not want more to take care of and keep up.   In fact, I was in a one-bedroom apartment for a few years and loved it.  I may eventually sell my house here and go back up to the mountains and get a small place again.  I won't do that for a long time probably since we moved my mom down here and I'm in a comfortable relationship.  I'm not going anywhere for a while.

    Mountains?  You want mountains? We've got mountains.  I am in Banff, Alberta and have already written to one Mugger that I would move here immediately if I could afford it.  You were in Vermont or somewhere in the Northeast though, weren't you?

  • I'm very happy in my two bedroom apartment, which for a single girl who has no wish to marry and have children is about right. Since I do all the housework myself, a larger home would be a burden.
