Do you have any personal preferences about how you best learn things?



  I love language and languages.  When it comes to committing things to memory about a foreign language, I have to see them written down. Secondly, I do not do very well with audio recordings, BUT, the spoken word in one-on-one/face-to-face conversation works better for me than tapes.  I guess it's imitation that registers in my brain.

    Based on the three types of learning styles (visual, auditory and tactile), I am definitely visual. I read directions and manuals; if you tell me how to do something it won't register unless I take notes or you draw me a picture.

    Like you, I learn best when I'm shown something.  Best example is a new computer program at work.  When they have a class or one-on-one training, I'm more likely to understand and retain.  If I have to read about it, I tune out.

    I've always found it easy to learn from books. (Nowadays I also go online - it's like the world's biggest library at one's fingertips.)
    Books give me the principles, the methods, the tips and cautions.
    Then I practise. With the practice, I can gradually develop competence and then start reaching towards excellence.
    Books for me are like access to an infinite supply of teachers, a supply of the benefits from the experiences of others.
    I find there is no area of life without infinite knowledge, and I can never know how much I don't know, so reaching for books will always help bridge the gaps. This post was edited by inky at May 23, 2019 8:17 PM MDT
