Married people whose parents were alive when you got engaged, what was their opinion about your relationship?

Dad died when I was fourteen.

At the wedding, Mum said, "these two have been dating for nineteen years. If any couple has proved they'd got what it takes to make a success of their relationship, I think it's these two." All our friends cheered.

And Mum was right.

They were all alive and no one was surprised.  They knew it was coming eventually.
