I didn't start watching TV until about 4 PM.  No, I didn't watch the D.C. extravaganza, nor did I watch the Macy's fireworks.  Fireworks are great when you see them live.  When they are televised, the color is poor and there's so much smoke that it ruins the event for me.  I think only one PBS station broadcast the D.C. event and maybe FOX.  If every channel broadcast it, I would have turned off the TV and read until it was over.

Really? Every channel didn't tune in to the ego boy spoiler of the 4th of July? That is happy news! Thank you for your reply L. We had a lotta stuff going on yesterday. The ego boy wasn't on our list of things to do. :)

I believe I read that it was only one PBS station.  However, I can't verify that because I didn't go looking for the coverage of him.

Donald Trump, the Feckless Runt, got the minimum amount of attention he deserved for taking over the 4th of July celebration and trying to make it his own personal holiday.

Sounds as if it was a fast-moving rainstorm. We get them on occasion. Very intense while overhead and then it goes and the sun comes out! Thank you for your reply E and Happy Saturday to thee! :)

Of course we're great tennis fans D and Wimbledon is the diamond in the crown of the grand slams. Jim has our DVR set to record each day's play. Ten hours worth. Then at our leisure we watch! On the first Sunday there is never any play but the final Sunday is "breakfast at Wimbledon" and strawberries are always part of the it. The tennis was magnificent. We have a 15-year-old American named  Coco Gauff who as of yesterday advanced to the 4th round! Her first round she BEAT Venus Williams who is  39!. Yesterday was touch-and-go for a long while. It looked as though she would lose but as is true of ALL CHAMPIONS she found a way to hang in and win! So we didn't have to avoid the ego boy at all D. We were in London along with all the fans watching GREAT TENNIS! Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday. It pleased me to know it  RAINED bigly. What it cost us we will never know. Easy come easy go.  :( This post was edited by RosieG at July 6, 2019 7:34 AM MDT

I'm sorry to say Rosie that I will never understand the fervour behind anyone so desperate to play or watch any proffessional type of ball sports ...it's just kids games and just a waste of people's lives....

Ten years ago when I use to go out to clubs or bars, I could not help but overhear guys talking about football .....
They would bore me senseless within about two seconds flat, they are just children's games and nothing more...
I worked with my dad and have a friend that lives and overlooks Wimbledon up the hill to the west side of the stadium.... It's a nightmare for three weeks every year for everyone living there ,much the sane for resident that live near any large sport ground.....:(

Different strokes D. My son played Little League Baseball. He was very good. His interests turned to professional basketball and so I became informed and enjoyed years of watching. I was privileged  to watch Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins Hockey team. He was grace in motion. I have become a great fan of some tennis professionals and golf professionals because Jim plays both sports and enjoys watching and through him I have come to appreciate greatness in athletes. You are wired in a different way. You have no interest at all in some things I appreciate. That's the way it goes. People value different things for different reasons or don't value some things at all. Now I have never been a professional football fan but once upon a time I saw John Elway and his family at a  Fair and I was really excited. I never followed professional baseball either but my son loved to play and had a few heroes. One was Lou Gehrig. He saw the movie and read the book Lou's widow wrote and got a reply when he wrote her a fan letter. I don't know what moves you that is positive. Much of what you write is very negative. I'm not sure why that is what I bring out in you. And so it goes. Thank you for your reply. This post was edited by RosieG at July 6, 2019 5:20 AM MDT

They are all games played for fun and excersise aRosie.....I understand that, but to make it into a job is what baffles me ....they get millions and millions each year where a doctor and more so nurses gets a pitiance in comparison...
Fire fighters ,lifeboat men and so many other worthy occupations get nothing in comparison...

How can anyone become famous from just knocking a tiny ball about...when othere dedicate there lives for far more worthy things and ask for nothing in return....

I watched some of it and its likely that Putin did too. Right now on Russian State TV they are mocking Trump's July 4th event as being very low energy - bet that really hurts Trumps ego. Also bet Putin thought it was pretty funny when Trump referred to Air Force One as Plane One (Plane One is what the Russian military calls Putin's plane). I also just read something funny about Trump - in his July 4th speech he was talking about famous Americans and he  mentioned Alexander Graham Bell as one of the famous Americans - Bell was Canadian AY. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at July 6, 2019 7:37 AM MDT
