How do I take my mind off how hungry I am?

Basically I'm a college student and I've been living off of scrambled eggs, oatmeal and macaroni cups for the past 2 weeks. My food's run/running out and I have no money. My parents only sent me back to school 3 weeks ago with $60, which I had to spent on food and other things I needed (soap, feminine items, plates, utensils, etc.).
They told me they would send me more the next week, but when the next week came they called me assuming I had money left after buying all that. I went ahead and told them I did since they obviously needed that money for something (though they didn't tell me what) else. And I don't want to ask for any b/c I told them I had money and food, and b/c I'm not sure they even have it to give me right now anyway. So how do I take my mind off my hunger?

There must be soup kitchens around the area somewhere.
I done that before when I needed to.

Buy a brick of ramen noodles, some rice and canned meat.  Both will go a long way if you're creative.  (You might also research day labor/labor pools and, in a hell of a pinch, how and where to sell blood plasma.)

Same here.  I've worked both ends of the soup line. :-)

Good one!  Babysitting, too.  Cutting yards and raking leaves is always an option.

You can't. Your body is designed to pester your brain when you're hungry and will force your brain to figure out ways to get some food until you do. You have some good suggestions here already.

You can get a 12 pack of Raman noodles for $2
For about $5 you can make a big pot of spaghetti that would feed you for several days.
There are probably churches or soup kitchens that also can help in your area. You might look into a part time job. Some restaurants even feed you for free.

Why don't you put your mind on getting some extra financial aid?  Find out where the food banks are.  Research any possibility for a part time job somewhere.  You won't make it this way and you know it.

  • There's a financial aid refund check every semester for about 3,500 or so, but it goes to my parents. And they only give me $300 of it

Ask your neighbours and friends for food this time but DON'T make it a habit (find a job). I would be more than happy to share food with some neighbour or friend who has not enough. It's just who I am.

You need to eat. You could call the food banks in your city, and go to Salvation army they have bags of food for people who need it. You could also get a student grant or loan. Talk to your college and tell an advisor your situation. Going to school fulltime is very hard so keep at it. Don't give up and start working,  it is not worth it.

  • Yeah my parents don't want me to work while I'm in school because school is like a job by itself. But when they give me so little money to go off it's hard to not consider it. Then every semester there's a financial aid refund check for about $3500 or so but it goes to my parents, and they only give me $300

You need to eat. Many communities have food banks and free dinners for people in need, so find out if there are any and use them. Talk to your parents about the reality of the situation. I find it hard to believe that they think $20 a week is enough to get by on. Maybe that's all they had to give, but even that is strange because they must have had money to send you to college with, and again it's hard to imagine that after tuition they left nothing for food. If you're on student loans, money for food and lodging should be included too, so what gives here?

  • The college I go to doesn't have a meal plan. We have a cafe, but you have to pay for the food out of pocket.
Every semester there's a financial aid refund check of around $3,500 but it goes to my parents, and they only send me $300. They figure since I'm only buying food for me, 1 person, I shouldn't need that much money. I tell them over and over that things are more expensive here than at home (tax is higher) but they don't listen

Then tell them you are going to drop out and find a job, or just come back home, because you can't possibly complete a college degree while you're literally starving.

And what is this financial aid refund check? Is it something you applied for specifically for school? Or is it meant to support your parents?

Also realize that most college students are close to starving. It is not worth quitting school for. (My friend tithed her money trusting in God to help her instead of buying food sometimes. She told me how hungry she was all the time. She is a multi millionaire now and can eat very nicely.) So trust in God, pray and give him the first dollar, and get grants and loans to get you through.

Well, that is NOT enough.  You need to tell them the truth of it?  Do they eat like this?  What kind of freaks are they that they don't care about your food intake?

Google food banks in your area.  It will help tons.  I have done it when I am in dire straits.  Give it a shot.

  • The refund check is what's left over from all the student loans and grants I get. After my classes and housing and whatever else is paid for, we get what's left. But when I started college (4 yrs ago) we were offered the choice of either having the refund check sent to me, or my parents, and of course my parents arranged for it to be sent to themselves. I feel like they've basically been helping themselves to the money that I earned in the first place because a good chunk of the aid I get is through grants and award money I earned through my hard work in high school. And I know because every time they come to visit me they've got on new clothes, new shoes, etc. that I know they couldn't have gotten otherwise

  • They assume that since I'm only buying food for one person, I shouldn't need that much money. Then when I call them to tell them I'm out of money they act all surprised and stuff like I shouldn't be. I've told them time and time again that food's more expensive here where I go to school than where I'm from because the tax is higher, and then I also have to buy supplies for my classes. And since I go to an art school, art supplies aren't exactly cheap. We get student discounts, but they're kind of a joke. I might have to give the food bank idea a try
