There are bullies on both sides. Just like there are idiots on both sides. And people who can have a calm civil conversation on both sides.

That is the way it is Andy.  The only truly nasty people on this site when it comes to politics are progressives.  The few Democrats on the site are not included in that assessment.

Perhaps you don't notice the other side as much because the comments are not directed in your direction.
There are many Trump supporters are (insult here), or "right wing nut job" questions on here daily.
As there are "libs" questions as well.
Many people just cannot seem to talk politics without being rude.

Because projecting onto their imagined opponents is all they really have to defend themselves with.

In my experience there's plenty of intolerance to go around.  Hell, even libertarians (not me, of course :-^)) can exhibit some rather nasty intolerance.

Precisely.  Although she and I almost never agree on the issues, I can count on hartfire to be civil.

Practically speaking, American progressives are ultra-left wing.  Most are unapologetic socialists.  Democrats take a slightly more pragmatic stance on social and fiscal issues.

As my2cents suggested above, you're being influenced by political parallax.  Your views of those to the left and to the right of you are skewed.

But by no means should you feel singled out.  All of us are influenced by political parallax.  The only defense against it is to be aware of it.
