It only took me a few minutes of being around people from other countries where underarm deodorant isn't used to appreciate its existence even more. We use it because it's necessary, that's why. LOL. ~
We generally use antiperspirants to avoid the sweaty underarm situation. How bad your sweat smells depends on different factors like your diet, your health or your genetics. And your smell may be offensive to some people and not to others.
People have body odor. That odor from sweaty underarms is from a common bacteria to us all and it smells similar on everyone as far as I know. But we also have individual scents. I've only known a couple of people who just had a real "stink" when they didn't shower daily. I shower an average of 10 times per week. If I get sweaty, I'm going to take a shower when I finish the work project. I'm allergic to deodorant so I use alcohol twice a day and it's all good. Cheap and not harmful in any way.

I'm normally pleasant-smelling but after exercise I can be quite rank. I think maybe we tend not to notice our own smell or the smell of people close to us.
Uh-huh. Give it a couple of days of sweating and you'll throw your wife in the shower with copious amounts of shower gel.
