I can't think of a time when that happened, but I would just insult them back and maybe a fight would break out. I don't take shit.
When it's wrong, I usually laugh. If it hits a nerve, maybe it isn't an insult, but rather a truth I just didn't want to accept. It really depends on the situation, tone and context of the conversation.
I'm not hypersensitive about it.
