Why do we refer to a "pair of pants" when it's only one article of clothing?

    Well, each leg of a pair of "Pants" is a Pant

    The word "Pants" is is a noun defined as a Plurale tantum. A Plurale tantum is a form of a noun which can only be referred in the plural sense like the word Glasses.

    Where the hell is Randy? He is shirking his responsibilities here.
