    In early times the ship's owner would combine his name with his gal's name as a name for his ship. 
    Eg you might call your ship the 'RanJane' or 'RandJane'. Or something.

    How do I know what the Egyptians called their barges?  Are they ships?  Imagine knowing the names of ships before then.  I say way too obscure.

    I bet the first ship had a name.  Something like boat or yacht.
