If a ship drops its anchor then is unable to haul it back up, what do you think might be holding it down there?

I have never actually heard of that happening though.

My father once lost his boat motor off of his little 14 footer.  What a clumsey ox!

It can get snagged on rocks or other debris.

A big ship boaty thing can never drop all of its anchor chain straight down and not touch the bottom.....it's to heavy and will snap ,
Anchors need to touch bottom and lay out chain on the ocean floor for them to work.....
I'm mid ocean  they only need to drop Anchor a short distance to hold its position in the seas :)
