One of the first things criminals often reach for when attempting to clean up a crime scene is chlorine bleach.

It’s also one of the most obvious clues that trips them up, because chlorine bleach is seldom used in those settings in normal, non-criminal circumstances, and because it does not clean up nor hide the substances that investigators look for when scouring the scene. Lastly, the amounts of bleach used at a scene is also ridiculously overkill. (Sorry for the pun.)

For instance (and assuming that you are not a criminal), when was the last time you used chlorine bleach to clean anything in your car?

  • It doesn't matter.  The DNA is the concrete evidence.  Bleach is circumstantial at best.  It doesn't matter if they know you did it,  it's them.being able to.prove you did it.  Crime 101.

    I have never used bleach to clean anything inside any of my cars.  I haven't used anything at all - I take it to the car wash and THEY clean the inside of my car.  I don't drink anything other than water in my car, nor do I eat in my car, so the only dirt there is is dust and whatever winds up on the floor mats from the outside.

      At the car wash, have they ever used chlorine bleach to clean any part of your car? (The odor alone would give it away, if not that, the discoloration would.)

    No, they haven't.  Since I don't allow food or drink in my car, they only have to vacuum the interior and dust the dashboard.

    Bleach would be a no-no in a car. Vapors can be quite harmful. Emergencies only...like the time my trunk needed a good wipe-down after...never mind.
