Just as I am allowed to make and produce my own alcohol, butcher my own meat, eat eggs from my own chickens, drink milk from my own cows, etc for my personal/household usage. But not allowed to sell it to the public without the gov coming in and inspecting my property, my process and my animals etc.

I read your answer and it sounds similar to mine. You are referring to a place where it has been put in to place. The prostitutes in your answer are paying taxes and get health-screenings. I think difference is you are looking at it from the benefits for the prostitutes and I look as it as protecting the community. I think they both work together in this instance.
Yes, they both work together. One point of protecting the community is the health screening on a regular basis, the government pays for it and it is a Must.
After reading Sharonna's and my2cents's answers, I was thinking of deleting my question since, before their answers, I was simply not remembering things like states' deciding and taxation and things like that - - but with your funny answer here, I'll leave the question up at least for a while. :)
All I said? Is that they are not being taxed and that is why it is illegal. My 2 is the finance wizard and I bow to her expertese on matters that do not require analyzing politics.
