    Well if someone crossed over too close front of me on the sidewalk that would be annoying,  might be a cause for sidewalk rage.

    I think being in a car makes it feel much safer to flip someone off. Being face-to-face is just too personal. Sort of like on-line hate comments.

    If you lived and worked in NYC, you would know that there's plenty of sidewalk rage.  People walk helter skelter, most of them are busy looking at their phones rather than where they're going, lots of tourists walk three and four abreast so you can't get around the because they're taking pics and/or looking up at the tall buildings and moseying along because they have all the time in the world.
