Discussion»Questions»Life and Society» Can you think of something that existed in your lifetime that automatically ages you? Example: pay toilets.(Yes, I remember them.)
TV channel changers that were bigger then a key board and they had a wire on them that connected to a converter box that was bigger then a VCR - guess VCR dates me too. Cheers and happy weekend!
That means your old enough to remember the Micky Mouse theme song and if you now watch the Late show you might have heard the new version - The Donald Trump Club March. Included a link to the vid in case you never saw it. Cheers and happy weekend!
Pay toilets. I seen one once. We were camping. This was in the mid-1990s believe it or not. I just remember thinking "I bet this place has alot of plumbing problems" We had a camper so we did not have to pay. I did pay for a good long hot shower though.
Cassette tapes and VCRs. I still prefer a prefer them. They were tough. No scratches. No buffering. Just put in and play it.
This will really age me but I remember when they made plastic sheets that had a strip of green on the bottom - a strip of orange in the middle and a strip of blue on the top. You put the sheets over your TV screen and pretended you had a color TV. Cheers and happy weekend!
1. Cable television didn’t exist, there were three major networks (ABC, CBS and NBC), and public television (PBS). Combined with local channels such as UHF broadcasters, they made up the entire array of selections for television viewers. Where I was born and raised, that meant we had fewer than ten channels from which to choose.
1a. All television programming ceased around midnight or thereafter, and did not begin again until the wee hours of the morning, usually between 5 to 6 am. When each channel shut down for the night, it would be announced that the broadcast day was ending, and they would play the National Anthem, accompanied by a film reel of patriotic imagery. Following that, a test pattern would show, then the screen would go blank.
1b. If you wanted to see a movie after it was no longer available at the cinema, you were out of luck until or unless one of the big three television networks deemed it fit to be shown on the small screen. Years later, this was alleviated somewhat when Beta and VHS made home viewing at the consumers‘ wishes a reality. Cue Blockbuster Video and its clones.
2. Every morning in school, we stood, placed our right hands over our hearts and recited The Pledge of Allegiance.
3. More women and girls wore skirts and dresses more often.
4. When I was very young, a gallon of gas never cost more than 99 cents.
5. Carbon paper was used to make duplicate copies of certain documents. Mimeograph machines preceded copiers and printers. There was also a machine called a typewriter, which preceded word processors, which preceded smart phones.
6. Knowledge was stored in the brain and was recalled by long-lost processes called thinking, remembering, brainstorming, etc., unlike today wherein nothing has to be learned because it’s all a clockclick away.

I have been trying to guess your age for years. You are a bit older than I thunk. (A real word.) A clock away?
