I've always had good luck with my new cars. But since I am a trained motorcycle mechanic of some 25 years, I've really had good luck with the reliability factor of my bikes.

      Thank you.

Has any used one been much better than all of the new ones?

A used one was the best I ever had. It only had 5,200 miles on it and had never been rained on and was a year old. A Monte Carlo SS and I got over 300,000 miles on it with minimal repairs and it never stranded me any where. I had 2 new cars in my life and both were okay but did not challenge that car.

My favorite so far has been a VW pop top.  I could take it anywhere with my bike and have a place to cook, sleep and enjoy the day at the beach or mountains and still park in a regular parking place.  It had a refrigerator for my cold food, a sink and water supply for cooking and cleaning.  It was a real blessing.  The drawback was driving it in high wind, it had a tendency to be hard to handle at times.  Plus the maintenance was special, but the comforts were worth it.  This post was edited by Art Lover at December 23, 2019 7:55 PM MST

All new cars are crap with to much electric gizmos that are almost impossible to repair without specialist diagnostic equipment to find the fult codes for that car...My first car was an old disel 190D Mercedes auto ...it went round the clock three times and I got more for it when I sold it then I paid for it....
Only tiny things every went wrong with it...

All the cars I've ever owned have been used. The best car I ever had was also the oldest - a 1970 VW Beetle. Ran on the smell of an oily rag, very reliable, parts were dirt cheap and anything that did go wrong I could fix myself. I'd be driving it still had I not been T-boned by a pickup with a bull bar on the front (the driver disobeyed a STOP sign). That made the little car very unhappy, firefighters had to cut me out of it.

I have bought three new cars and two used ones.  I feel like the money was most wisely spent on the used cars.  I am driving the second used car now.  It's a 2017 model and I bought it last December at a great price.  It's an inexpensive car anyway.  As of now the car is absolutely perfect for what I needed.  I had to get rid of the big SUV so my little mother could get in and out of her limo.
