As I snack on your thought, I agree.
When spoken to, you are identified by your first name in the United States.
From the time you leave the womb you are normally surrounded by family and friends.  There would be no need for a second name to identify you as a person.

When you enter the machine, you are known by two names and a number. This post was edited by Merlin at January 7, 2020 10:58 AM MST

I wonder if that's why in some cultures a ritual of initiation confers a new name when a kid reaches the age of adult responsibility.
It might create a release from child-mind.
It would be interesting if some anthropology or psychology student took it up as a topic for a PhD.

Were you searching for us to pay no heed to your statement about first names but rather what food popped into our heads from you writing, "Food for Thought?"
If that was your goal, I'm sorry, but no food came to mind.

Now that I am thinking of food, watermelon sounds good.
