Do you know anything that you don't know?

(Hint: it's a trick question.)

I know all the things I don't know but, absent the additional knowing of what I don't know, the list of what I do know is much shorter than the list of what I don't know.

With all the Latin that exists in the English language, I wonder if you know more of it than you think you do.

I know English.  I do not know Latin.  I probably know more of it than the average English speaker by virtue of my education and profession...........Latin phrases are common in legal dialogue and documents and opinions; many of our legal doctrines are stated in Latin.  Judges really like to use them.  Knowing the root of English words just isn't knowing the language though.   I tried once to learn a second language and it is the only real failure I've ever had as far as not learning something.  I didn't really  want to learn Portuguese but the family business was set to have a partnership (import/export) with Brazil. This was back in the 70s.  I was very young, working and going to college in the evenings at the time.  I had no interest in this Brazil connection thing.  Anyway, in the end they decided to postpone that endeavor and it  never happened.  So, I still laugh at those who kept trying to learn the language.  My husband and I learned pretty much zero.  My FIL actually learned it well enough to communicate.  My BIL I'm not sure about.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to infer that you know the Latin language itself, I merely meant that by knowing English, which includes many words with Latin bases or includes Latin phrases/phraseology, you therefore know a little bit of Latin. That goes for French, German, Spanish, Italian, etc.; languages that supply numerous loan words and roots of words to the English language.
