Why would they go broke? Not every country would be doing this, only the ones for which it would be economically feasible. And it's more of a threat—all these countries united against the US—rather than an actual thing that will happen.

Since the Trump Admin pulled out of Paris and the US is also the second largest fossil fuel producer in the world (China is #1), why haven't progressive countries that are major trading partners of the US passed a UN resolution encouraging these countries to impose economic sanctions of the US until the Trump Admin actually does something about climate change? This seems like the most logical strategy for dealing with the Trump Administration and its dismissal of global warming. What are the technical problems with this solution? Is it not happening already because countries don't want to risk minor detriment to their economies? In other words, I analyze someone for a very long time until I can predict their actions with 99.99% accuracy before fully trusting them (with anything). That being said, different people who aren't as trustworthy can still be trusted with different things that aren't as important. It's a risk/reward, or cost/benefit, kind of deal.  less

A person may arrive on a site and like the interface or its usability. He may use it for its intended purpose, but it's the community that makes him stay. Many of us have experienced both situations you're discussing- having a community ripped away with notice is upsetting. Having your online family taken away with no warning at all is  traumatic. Here on AM, we were very tiny before AB closed. Our core members were from AB, so having AB close and those people come here was like being reunited with family. When EP closed a few months after that and those people came over, they were mostly welcomed. There were a few people who struggled with the differences- it's kind of like a mass migration into a real community. Who are these people? Why are they behaving the way the...    less

Many scientists believe that there is a one in a billion chance that this theory is NOT the case. Evidence rests on the fact that the universe conforms to laws of mathematics (which, to me, doesn't really count as evidence), just like it does in the less advanced types of simulations we have now, and that the level of intricacy of matter that we know of isn't infinite; intricacy only goes down to the subatomic particle level and we cannot see beyond a certain point with microscopes, and us being part of a finite, pixelated simulation would account for that. The hypothesis suggests that our technology with bio-engineering and computer programming, which ties into artificial intelligence, will inevitably merge and allow humans to simulate life...    less
