Should we have a look at your ancestors, Mr. X aka Not Trump? Might become almost as interesting as discovering your EP refugee status. Hmm.

    Mmhmmm...

But seriously, I don't care about this for my own part. I know I'm far from perfect, and I don't feel guilty as I'm a non-native English speaking person. However, I have talked with other members that are somewhat intimidated, holding back to create their own posts, not replying with comments on all the posts they would like to, and all simply because some of our lovely grammar teachers have been rough on them. That's the real tragedy here. If the grammar teacher thought they were helping that member to become better at grammar? They failed. Result? One member short.

  • Hard to believe that people would be intimidated. I just really know of Randy that does it the most, and he is always fun and never meant as ill spirited. That's my opinion anyway. I would be more concerned of those that run other people off by how they belittle others in replying to questions or comments. Those that make themselves out to be the know it all of the site. It has gotten better lately, but I'm sure that has been after some direct talk with JA.

Randy, that was not an attack, but a good thing man!

The belittling is a bad thing. No doubt. However, not the issue I wanted to point out with my question. No matter how hard it is for you to believe that this takes place, it does. I wouldn't raise this question if not.

All I am saying here is that I prefer a few incorrect grammars over less contributions. For some it is a rather personal thing to be corrected in public for such errors. The result will be less communication which is all the opposite of what such community as ours is about.

We are different. Why not accept it. Maybe hold back a while with too much grammar policing towards those we don't know, or those we aren't sure about how they will perceive it? Will it harm anyone?

That's all. Just to be sure, this question isn't asked with anyone specific in mind. It's the action and the result I'm trying to add some focus on. It's real for some!

Well this is a question and answer board not a spelling bee - I mean spelling B so pointing out grammar mistakes is redundant. Personally I think the grammar "teachers" don't care if they intimidate other members thats why they will always be grammar Nazis in my books. Cheers!

  • Hey that's not nice, for someone constantly fighting offensive comments. That picture is certainly offensive to a lot of people here.
    So as for the question,
    Do you even care?

  • There's an old biz saying; do you want to be happy and have fun, or do you want to be right? IOW sometimes you need to pick your battles.

  • Not that bothered about sloppy use of language, as long as it doesn't confuse or make my head ache trying to understand it.

I prefer corrections to be made with humour where possible,  Being nice costs nothing.

I think it's disrespectful, when a person puts some time and effort into a thoughtful question, and the response is a "correction" of the one grammatical or spelling error.

Die Teilnahme ist nicht von der Muttersprache bestimmt.

In fact the combination of multiple languages, whereof one of us is native English speaking is ideal. We build the bridge that allows all languages to be part of aM.

Then they don't care about this place for its purpose. That's a shame if true.

Why does this same question keep getting asked.

    WHY?

We hear people grousing about grammar teachers on here like this is some big issue.  Randy does it.   He doesn't hound anyone.  He is funny that is all.  So what.

My grammar is good, and if it isn't I don't mind hearing about it at all.  That's how I learn.
