Do you find it disrespectful when those online ads taunt us to click and see what certain celebs look like now that they have reached old age and are less attractive than they were during their youth?

Where are all the protests against shaming?

  • Not so WW.  Real beauty never fades and has nothing to do with what bits are no longer defying gravity.  :)

Yes I think it's disrespectful. The celebs deserve to be left alone without the media always messing with them.

    Hello Randy:

I wouldn't call it disrespectful..  It's just plain bad advertising.  In my view, if you DON'T like the stuff being sold, or you get lied to in the add, it's disrespectful or even worse..  But, if you DO, then it's innovative advertising, and more importantly, transparent...

Look..  You don't like telemarketers..  NOBODY likes 'em..  But, if you LIKE what they're selling, then they're just salesmen.  I was a telemarketer..  I was a very GOOD telemarketer..  In fact, I was SO good, that NONE of the people I called THOUGHT I was a telemarketer..  They thought I was a friend, and I was.  It began with my unique ability to pronounce last names properly on the fly..  My last name is not easy..  When somebody calls and stumbles over my last name, I HANG UP!  But, when somebody pronounces it accurately, they've got my attention..

My only problem with the adds you're speaking about, is that when you click on them, they DON'T deliver the promised material..  That's the same as mispronouncing my name - or WORSE.  And, it's BAD advertising..

    Thank you, EC.

Good point about the telemarketers, but anecdotally, not one has ever been successful in their bids to get me to drink the Kool-Aid, especially the ones who try the friend-angle.
Also, while I've never clicked on the particular ads I refer to in this posted question, experience taught me long ago not to click on ANY of these online ads, precisely for the reasons you stated. They only tease, they do not deliver. (Pssssst, don't let site administrator Just Asking read this; she'll kill me!)

    Hello again, Randy:

First off, I NEVER was a guy out of the blue.   There was always a connection..  That was part of the excellence..   In any case, if we didn't make a deal, we'd still leave friends.

I see. I receive a LOT of cold calls from complete strangers here at the Randy D Ranch, so I always run them off.

The most tasteless one to me was a recent one I saw just about two weeks ago.

There was a beautifully cute photo of actress Elizabeth Montgomery in her "Bewitched" TV series days. Of course, the tag line was something like "What she looks like now is jaw-dropping . . ."
I'd say so, since she died more than several years ago.

I think I saved the ad --  if I find it, I'll try to post it. But, boy, someone needs to check the dates on these ads.
