Democratic socialism v Soviet style socialism v Communism

I have NO idea how come nobody KNOWS this stuff..  Truly..  MISUNDERSTANDING it will cause Trump's re-election.  So, lemme help...

Soviet style socialism REQUIRES government ownership of industry rather than being held by private individuals. Democratic Socialism, on the other hand, works WITHIN a capitalist system, leaving the means of production in private hands..

Politically speaking, Communism DEMANDS complete control by a single political party. Unlike communism, however, democratic socialism doesn't dictate what kind of government be set up. Democratic Socialism calls for a democratically elected government.

You get that, right?? BIG difference, wouldn't you agree?

    Perhaps Bernie should not have embraced the term Democratic Socialist.  And simply said he wants policies like Sweden and Denmark....which are not socialist countries.

    Bernie will not get the nomination. He will not have the delegates needed at the convention and the establishment will take it from him. My bet is they give it to Bloomberg.

    You cannot educate the population during an election that his version of socialism is not the classic definition of socialism.  Then convince the voters that Swedish and Danish style gov would work here.

    Most voters do not want to pay that much attention. This post was edited by my2cents at March 1, 2020 9:08 AM MST

    In the end,  socialism means everybody gets an 'equal share' in life.  If you wish for more, you may likely be imprisoned or killed. There may be many different types of socialism, but one result.

    With respect, I am really not sure that's correct. I think you are thinking of soviet style socialism or even more extreme communism. There are many socialist orientated governments and indeed countries and they don't go around killing people! I think most of all of them accept now that there can never be total equality

    The Trumpist's are trying to get away with a kind of sloganism which depends on massive ignorance.

    You're exactly correct, Excon.

    China has no elections except among the top echelon of its Communist party after a present leader retires or dies.

    Russia does occasionally have elections these days, but the people can only vote for which communist leader will get the top job, not between parties offering different economic and social strategies.

    North Korea, though it calls itself communist, is now in its third generation of a dynasty.

    ~

    Northern European socialist-democracies fully support private ownership and business;
    the only government ownership is of social services which are provided free to the people.
