Unlike Elvis, Orbison got by on pure talent - he lacked Elvis's self-belief and didn't have the Establishment behind him. Don't get me wrong, Elvis was a fine singer but he came along at a time when the big money was looking for a white man who sounded like a black one. He rode the wave. Roy was in the shadow of the King but his voice was bigger and a lot cleaner. His life was a soap opera - should have changed his name to Job. How could one man suffer such tragedy and not be broken by it?

I'm lost... Is this a hint as to a person who had these very unfortunate experiences and could sing in the 60s?? I can't think of an idol or singer that had these terrible events happen to them...
